The NYPD seemed to be everywhere.
We were in Times Square when we saw these members of the NYPD on horseback. All the police are armed which is not the case in the UK. We do have armed police but they are a number of specially trained officers so I always find it difficult when I see so many armed police on the streets.
On their segways. It looks as though there is some kind of meaningful discussion going on here but I was close enough to hear their conversation. The one behind was describing the type of pizza he ate last night when he got in from work. The one by the roadside with the umbrella doesn't look particularly impressed.

This police vehicle reminded me of Delboy's car in 'Only fools and horses' Don't think this vehicle would be much good in a chase.

Some of these vehicles look like they come from a 1950's Sci-Fi film!
ReplyDeleteI do need to look back now and them, if only to remind myself of how far I have come, and of where I came from.

That is a funny variety of police vehicles, particular the last one. What on earth do they want to see with this one?
ReplyDeleteThis is so interesting! I didn't realize the NYPD have such a variety of vehicles, including the animal kind. :-)
ReplyDeleteI think I like the old fashioned way of getting around with those beautifully groomed horses. But the other vehicle that can be raised certainly would have its uses.
ReplyDeleteI am amazed! Really!!!
ReplyDeleteA lot more proactive the the British Police is all I can say.
ReplyDeleteI like the mounted police. Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
ReplyDeleteI like the mounted police shot. Sounds like an interesting conversation going on there. They do have a neat variety of transportation. Great post!
ReplyDeleteWow, all except the horses are new to me as police vehicles!
ReplyDeletei remember taking photos of policemen on horseback when i first visited NYC.:p i've seen the "scooters" in the 2nd photo around here--at the park and in some resorts, and people would comment that they're for those who are too lazy to walk.:p i wonder if they're as fast as the perps.:p
ReplyDeleteAn interesting series on New Youk! I've never been there.
ReplyDeleteThose are excellent. I have only seen them on horses.
ReplyDeleteLove those vehicles! Nice shots.
ReplyDeleteLovely captures! :) pizza!
ReplyDeleteAlways on move!
ReplyDeleteI would not mind having one of those "3-wheelers". Looks cool.
ReplyDeleteNice shots! The pizza conversation made me smile. :)
ReplyDeleteHave a happy Tuesday!
And then today I encountered our own mounted police for the first time in how long!
ReplyDeleteI guess "better safe than sorry"? I never feel truly comfortable with a police presence on the street... it's just a reminder that things aren't truly "safe" if their constant presence is required! That and growing up in Mexico I was taught the police were not to be trusted! If I saw a police officer in Mexico I'd cross to the other side of the street... I know it's different elsewhere, but it's an ingrained reaction, I can't help it doing it even today!
