London Sivan Temple

As readers of my blog know I travel far and wide across London looking for buildings and places of interest to photograph and share with you. Just imagine how surprised I was then to find this magnificent building on my doorstep. It takes about 15 minutes by bus for me to travel into Lewisham where I can connect with the DLR (Docklands Light Railway). Due to new road constructions around Lewisham I got off the bus at a different stop and walked. Just down a side street I came across this temple.

This is the London Sivan Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva

  1. Quite a building to come across on your doorstep . Good what you can come across something you never realised was there after living in the area for years

  5. Just catching up with your blog. have always wanted to go to Strawberry Hill. BUT now you've thrown me with these photos of the London Siva Temple. I live in the borough of Lewisham and have never seen nor heard of it. Just shown it to the kids & they haven't seen it either. Any chance you could tell us what road it is in so we can see it too. Mind you I'm keep as far away from that roundabout as I possibly can. A legendry nightmare!

  8. Such beautiful details. I wonder how long it has been there. I guess it is wise to try a different route now and then!

  10. So often Indian temples, even in western countries, can be quite grand but shabby. This one looks to be really well maintained.

PS. There may be an inadvertent typo in the post - "Shriva". Kind regards!

  12. It is quite lovely actually. Often I find such temples a little "over done" but this is restrained and the better for it.

  13. Who knows what fascinating things lie down the side streets! You do a better job than anyone I know finding the wonders in your world.., this Is definitely an unexpected one! We did some shopping in Lewisham while we were there, needed to go to a mall and it was the nearest.
