A number of skating rinks appear around London over the Christmas period. This one is in the courtyard of Somerset House, London.
The ice had been cleaned and was waiting for the next session when I arrived. But before the masses were let out onto the ice, a couple were brought out with a photographer and I assumed they had paid extra for as they posed for photographs.
But then, much to the surprise of his girlfriend, the young man got down on one knee and a huge cheer went up from all the spectators.
I assume the answer was 'yes'.
Then everyone was allowed onto the ice.
The young children who are not confident on the ice have their own area with these polar bear companions to help them keep their balance

How awesome. I envy epople who find some where like that to propose
ReplyDeleteYou were there at the right moment! Those polar bears I have never seen before, they are so cute to help the little ones.
ReplyDeleteThe photo with the child between the parents -- absolutely perfect! The polar bears are so cute. In Minnesota, children learn to skate pushing a small chair. Not nearly as fun as a polar bear!
ReplyDeleteFun stuff.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful rink! I guess it has lights underneath that make it change colors. And what a good idea to have a place with little "helpers" for those just learning. Thanks for this, and congratulations to the happy couple. :-)
ReplyDeleteHow romantic
ReplyDeletegack lol
Absolutely beautiful!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos and a lovely way to celebrate the season. The proposal is romantic but I especially like the little ones with the polar bears.
ReplyDeleteYou keep surprising us with all the wonderful things and wonderful places which exist away from London's honey pots. What a lovely way to begin the evening's entertainment with a proposal to excite the folk there, not to mention the fiance.
ReplyDeleteHello, Hope you are having a wonderful December and will have a blessed Christmas… This is such a joyful time of year for so many—but it’s also the time when others experience a deep loneliness, and struggle during the holidays for many reasons. SO—today I ask you to stop what you are doing for a few minutes and say a prayer for someone you know who might be experiencing a hard time now… OR—better still, send them a card or give them a call. It will mean the world to them.
ReplyDeleteWhat a neat place for an engagement setting.. Love it.. Glad you were there to capture the moment....
Merry Christmas to you and yours.
Hugs,
Betsy
The polar bear idea is brilliant as is the man who got on his knees to propose on the ice. Hope neither he nor his bride-to-be get cold feet later though. :)
ReplyDeleteLove your first pic - so colorful! I agree, the answer was yes:):)
ReplyDeleteWishing you a merry Christmas, dear blog friend!
What a great way to propose!

ReplyDeleteI'm so jealous of your public ice skating rinks, and what a fabulous moment to witness! But I wonder how many people who are proposed-to in a public place actually say NO?!?!?!
ReplyDeleteHow romantic! And what lovely shots.
ReplyDeleteFun place to be for sure!!
ReplyDeleteAwwww! How sweet and romantic. I wonder if they'd let me use one of those bears? If I ever tried ice skating I'd need more than one of those! But it is so fun to watch and that's a beautiful ice rink!
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful photos! So glad you caught that proposal on your camera. :-) The rink looks beautiful, and like so much fun. Have a very merry Christmas!
