Autumn missed

I have been very fortunate to have had an incredibly long Spring and Summer. Once it had ended here in London I changed hemispheres to enjoy the weather 'down under'. But that meant that I have missed out on Autumn with the leaves changing colour and the early morning mists that I used to see on my journey to work. Today I walked to my favourite park, not the closest park but one which can always lift the spirits - Greenwich Park.( I think I must be suffering from post holiday blues.) I wondered whether there would be any last remaining signs of Autumn.

This Ginkgo maidenhair tree is just turning yellow and is yet to lose its leaves.

I looked everywhere to try and find a Spanish sweet chestnut tree that still had some chestnuts on but I was too late for that. All had been picked or dropped to the ground.

I did find some fungi though.

Also found the last of the Summer roses.

The one thing I didn't expect to see was the Christmas tree cabin open for business!

  1. I love your Autumn tree, the yellows are so pretty. I have been seeing the tree stands showing here and there also. I would be afraid to buy a live tree so early. Lovely images, have a wonderful day!

  2. There is always a period of adjustment after a vacation. I am impressed with how you managed to post during your holidays and it was fun going along with you on your journey. Today’s wind in my world has blown most of the final leaves off the trees and Christmas is definitely in the air already. :)

  3. Ah so you are back home. It will take a week or so to come down from your high and get back into the swing of life at home. I'm glad you found a little bit of Autumn in the park. I am used to not having Autumn colours as I was so little when I left England. However, I do love visiting places when the leaves are different colours. It happens in the southern states and in the highlands .

  4. I'm also glad you got a chance to see some fall colors (or is it colours?) before they are gone for good. That blue sky sure looks lovely! :-)

  6. Just the remnants of Autumn ... It's SO strange to miss a season especially Autumn with its mellow days & misty mornings.
I have enjoyed 2 beautiful Autumn seasons this year but alas missed out on Spring and the flowering of my pretty crab apple trees.

  11. It has been an odd autumn here, some trees seems to have gone straight to winter mode and others seem to be hanging on to the very last possible moment. Glad you had a great trip.

  18. Home sweet home? ;o)

That gingko is beautiful! I really miss Falls... we don't get much of the technicolour changes in this part of Spain, just the massive rainstorms! :p

    Welcome home!

  19. If I had done your trip I would certainly get a depression when I feel the autumn air and the half naked yellow trees, I hate fall ! I could just hide in a cavern and stay there like a bear until spring ! Now it's my turn to catch some sunshine, I am off to Egypt's Red Sea for 12 days end November !
I hope you didn't suffer too much from the jet lag !

  24. You got a little fall color. I know exactly what you mean about missing seasons...the one we miss (in both senses of the word) is Spring...it doesn't happen in Florida and we don't usually get back to the Pacific Northwest until it's all over!

Christmas season starts too early here too. I'm never ready.
