Soho Village Fete

Here in the middle of London's West End is Soho. Today was their village fete held in the grounds of  St Anne's Church. Once you stepped into the Church garden you could have been forgiven for thinking you were in a small village in Kent rather than the busy, noisy streets of  China town and Theatreland, London.

It was organised by the Soho Society which aims to help local residents and businesses maintain an independence and not allow Soho to be swallowed up by the larger companies and become another  shopping mall.

There was good food, music and the usual side shows including a snail race and spaghetti eating contest for the children.

The local police were also there in force (sorry!) enjoying the fun.

  1. Soho is very interesting and original. It's one of my favourite parts of London. I hope so it will be in the same shape for many years.

  2. I thought England was very much a place where you can be within a city and yet not feeling like you are in a city space. Long may Soho prosper.

  3. Sorry, strange sense of humor, I suppose. I could almost imagine the "men in blue" as being the police, albeit in rather flamboyant costume. :-)

  4. You are so fortunate to be right in the midst of things, there in London. Thanks for introducing me to this place. :-)

  5. Don't be sorry :) I like to see the smaller shops encouraged, loved those blue uniforms and could absolutely "see" Revrunner's point of view :)

  7. Good on the society for wanting to keep it a community village and not be swallowed up by big business.

  8. Sounds like fun. I'm sorry that we couldn't hang around to see Guiting Power's Fete when we were there. It didn't start until the afternoon so the timing was off for us.
