I'm not much of a gardener but one plant I am proud of is my passion flower which I have had for years and years. It is named after the Passion of Christ and various parts of the flower are said to be symbolic of the last few days of Christ's life.
The ten petals represent the 10 faithful apostles excluding Judas and Peter
The three stigmas represent the three nails and the five anthers the five wounds.
We see a similar flower in Florida, but I had never heard the legend ... next winter I'll take a closer look at "ours" (in the public gardens, as you know I don't garden at all).
Well, it's certainly an unusual looking flower.
ReplyDeleteNever knew that about them. Used to have one but it died in the frost one year
