Unusual Christmas trees

The other week Gattina published a post about a modern Christmas tree in the main square in Brusselshttp:(http://gattinawritercramps.blogspot.co.uk/2012/11/a-scaffolding-as-x-mas-tree-in-brussels.html) I have to say I didn't like it at all nor it seems did many others including Gattina. So I've been looking around London for different trees or street decorations and found  this tree in Covent Garden:

The tree is made up of whisky barrels. The message alongside it says:

'It's not what's under the tree that matters it is who's around it, so every year with the help of family and friends we build a 26 foot tall Christmas tree made entirely of barrels that once housed Tennessee's finest whiskey. It's our gift to the people in our hometown of Lynchburg Tennessee and now we've built one for all of you too. It's just our way of saying: "Happy Holidays" because this year the biggest gift isn't under the tree - it IS the tree.'

At least you can tell what it is supposed to be.

  7. I am back from Egypt and just catch up in my Google reader and I found the Brussel's Christmas tree mentioned ! Please put a link to my blog if you mention my name, that's not an exception but a silent rule between bloggers.
Anyway, I still prefer your Whisky barrel tree than our mechanical thing ! At least it shows humor ! And Christmas should also be a cheerful !

  9. An interesting photo of a rather different Christmas tree. I must admit I would prefer a real live tree - but I guess ones that big would be hard to come by.

  10. Rather impressive tree; I hope it has been tamper proofed. It would be tempting for a mischievous soul with nothing better to do than upset the apple cart or should I say barrel cart :-)

  19. I'm not about this one! And I think IRB needs to remember that the barrels are made of wood!

There is already to strong a link between celebration and the need to drink - says he with a glass of wine in hand!

  23. Drat! Had I known you were going to post this I would have taken photos of all the "original" (read: weird!) Christmas trees that were spread around Liège when I was there last weekend! :p
I didn't 'cause I don't usually like these "modern art" trees. Give me the real thing any day of the week! ;o)

Still, those barrels are pretty impressive!
