Anonymous bloggers

At the moment I am being inundated with comments from anonymous bloggers which are only a means to them spreading their advertising sites. I know there must be a way to prevent this but I don't know how without preventing genuine blogers from commenting. can anyone advise? Thank -you to all my helpers out there who constantly come to my aid when things go wrong..

  1. You can set blogger so you have to approve comments before they are published. It's sort of annoying for those commenting, (and i've had complains on my blog about it) but it's worth it because yes, the spam comments are really out of control otherwise!

  2. I believe in Settings you can also set Comment Moderation to Never (if you’d prefer) while setting the Who Can Comment option to Registered User to avoid Anonymous comments.

  3. I have considered removing the ability for Anonymous commenters to leave anything, but Blogger catches them all and throws them into a spam bucket. All I have to do is go in and empty it once in awhile. It's annoying to see them in my mailbox, but there are people who actually use it to leave a legitimate comment, I'll put up with it a bit longer.

  4. I had this problem last summer. I went back to having word verification for everyone commenting, but that's very annoying and I don't like using it myself. Then another blogger suggested I take off the word verification and change my settings to only allow registered users to comment. That seemed to do the trick.

  5. I don't know how to prevent them, but my compromise is to set my comments to publish automatically if made within 4 days of post publication (you can change this to whatever time frame you want) and all other comments to be approved by me. If any sneak through within 4 days - very few - I just spam them when I find them from the 'published comments' option on my blogger dashboard rather than have that godawful word verification on. The spammers tend to post on older posts and most of mine go to blogger spam anyway which I then delete in bulk without checking.

    Hope this helps!

  7. Set the comment settings so that anonymous users can't comment or install word verification. Either option will get rid of the annoying spam!
