Rest of CBD walk

Just wanted to post the rest of the photos I took on that walk yesterday. I felt that they had
really thought about the best route to show the town off to its best advantage. The majority of the walk was by the water. First along the sea front and then walking by the river.

This is the walk along the boardwalk through the rain forest. There was lots of information on the way.

Don't know the name of this bird but it was obviously used to passers by as it didn't rush to move away.

I love the way the trees grow tall and straight in a rain forest eager for the light. You can also see the parasitic plants that make their home on and in the trees.

The walk then took you around a fresh water lake with large, bright, pink water lilies

The walk then carried on for quite some distance following the river. You can see the mangroves growing along the other bank.

Great looking bird. There was lots to look at as I began to walk a little more quickly not wanting to be caught out by nightfall seeing as I had no idea where I was in relation to the hotel.

An egret showing off its balancing skills. Eventually the walk left the riverside as it made its way back into town.

Once the walk got back into the town I knew where I was. This photo was taken earlier in the day at city place which seemed to be the centre of the town. Where are all the people? I have no idea. Once I left Sydney I have noticed that crowds just don't exist. But there's always enough people around to help me on my way. I asked one city gent for info and when I thanked him, he replied 'No dramas!' What a great Aussie expression.

  1. ThE first bird is a scrub turkey, the one on the fence is an ibis and are in pest proportions in many towns. Compared to Euurope we don't have crowds except in the capital cities. In cairns the people were probably all in the pub having a cool beer.

  2. It looks so deserted doesn't it compared with London life! Those pics look great Mum, so helpful you have followers who can educate us on the wildlife etc. The birds look fantastic, haven't seen anything like it! I mostly see pigeons when walking to work through Trafalgar Square.

Enjoy the reef tomorrow, I hope that will be a highlight. Know it is a dream of yours! Pretty jels except I could barely snorkel in the red sea last month. I knew I would regret watching that movie! . . . you know the one I mean. Yes, Jaws!!

  3. “No dramas” is an expression I have not heard but I like it. Although drama is the spice of life, we can often do without it. This must be the equivalent of “no worries” that we tend to say in my part of Canada. I am continuing to enjoy popping in on your real time travels. :)
