More bushwalking

I had intended to go sea kayaking today but it was very expensive and they didn't have any single kayaks only double ones which I wasn't too happy about so I decided to go on another walk. This time I followed a track through Koala country to the site of a disused fort and look-outs which were operational during WW2. Unfortunately I didn't see any koalas but the walk again was really enjoyable with great views.

I'm not sure which bay this is that I am looking down on but I think it might be Arthur Bay. There are so many beautiful bays around the island that look amazing.

I finally made it to the top where you could almost see the whole of the island but not quite, as Mount Cook in the centre prevented me seeing the West side.

After the Fort walk I then walked to Arcadia and on to Alma beach which I heard was one of the best beaches as the sand is softer there. On the way I spotted this bird which is a galar. In the early seventies I did a trip across Asia and became friends with an elderly gent called Dan. He was in his late 70s then and he loved to travel. In fact he came over to England and stayed with us for a few days. His favourite expression was 'You great galar!'. I had never heard of a creature called a galar until I met Dan and until today I had never seen one. So Dan I hope you're looking down on me as I looked at this bird and could only smile as I thought of you.

They were right, the sand was very soft here and I had a wonderful swim. Earlier I went for a swim from another beach. I left my bag on the beach and covered it with a towel and waded out into the sea. When I turned round there were about 6 crows trying to get into my bag. They didn't move away until I was almost next to them. What a cheek! But this beach at Alma had life guards on duty so I knew I would be safe from marauding crows.

  2. Cheeky crows!

That island is looking more and more fabulous with each post you write! I'll definitely have to keep it in mind if I ever make it back down to the land of Oz! ;o)

  3. "you silly galah" is common saying in the country especially. I think it is because the galahs act silly. You must be so fit demoing all that walking and swimming. Sounds like you are having fun.

  4. Hahaha! Did you know the collective noun for a group of crows is 'Murder' as in 'A murder of crows'?? How appropriate!!
