Farewell to Maggie

8th Oct Farewell to Magnetic Island

I had to vacate my room by 10am so I made the most of relaxing on the balcony before checking out. I then went for a walk along the length of Nelly Bay. It looks as though they have built sea defences made of sand but apparently the island was hit by a cyclone last year and it moved a lot of sand away from the sea edge. As I walked further along the beach the sand became less gritty and much softer to walk on.

Climbing on the rocks where the rock wallabies live, you have a clear view into the water. As the breeze has now died down the water is really clear and I could see numerous fish some of which were quite large. Looking back towards the hotel I had a great view of the marina and my ex-room.

My room was the second from the left

Oh well next stop Cairns. As I am only staying in Cairns for 2 nights I decided it would be easier to fly as it's only about a 50 min journey. The aircraft was quite small - 48 seater and there were only 16 of us travelling as well as a dog in the hold which didn't stop barking for the whole journey. I was very surprised to receive a snack of cheese and biscuits plus a very large glass of wine which the air hostess repeatedly tried to keep refilling as I think I was one of the few people drinking wine and she obviously wanted to finish the bottle.

On arrival at my hotel at Cairns I couldn't believe my luck as I had been given another room with a fantastic view
