The big trip

Well this is it. I am now busy sorting through what I need to take on my trip and wondering how to fit it all in.

On Thursday I fly to Hong Kong for 3 nights, then Sydney followed by Magnetic Island, Cairns, Port Douglas, Uluru, Alice Spings, Melbourne, tour of New Zealand (both islands), Singapore and then home. Travelling on my own makes me more aware of how I can't just leave things to chance and I keep checking all my documents are in place and backed up. It is quite an adventure I am embarking upon and I hope to report back to all my blogging friends as often as possible. I am taking my netbook with me which I hope will serve me well. Although suddenly it has decided it doesn't like uploading pictures that much. Will I have time to sort it out before I go - not sure, but I am hoping that my next blog will be from Hong Kong - fingers crossed.

  3. I wonder how long you are in Sydney. You will probably have gone by the time we arrive in Sydney on the 6th. Shame. You will have a great time. Most Aussies are friendly and helpful and New Zealanders are great hosts.

  4. What a wonderful trip ! I have never been in this part of the world, but my son has and he didn't want to come back :)! It doesn't bother me at all to travel alone, it's better then being in bad company ! My little Asus notebooks which I take along on all my trips works perfectly well even in countries like Turkey or Morocco. It all depends on the Wifi you get. When are you leaving ? In any case have a wonderful trip and I hope to see lots of pictures !

  7. What fun! I look forward to hearing all about it, pictures or not. You are such an inveterate traveler, I'm sure you'll do fine but I know about the need to keep checking that everything is there! :-)

  8. Lucky, lucky you!!! Sounds like a great trip!!! Be sure to try the dim sum in Hong Kong, yummy!
New Zealand... how do I love thee? Let me count the ways!!! I've been twice, for 3 weeks then 5 (three years apart). And as soon as I get the money saved up and can take that much time off I'm going back! It's a BEAUTIFUL country!!! And you'll be arriving as Spring leans into Summer which is a lovely time to be there with all the Pohutekawa trees in blooms... *sigh* I'm jealous!!!

    Bon voyage! ENJOY!!! :o)

PS: I didn't blog as much as I wanted to last time I went to NZ (was too busy having fun!) and didn't have time to finish writing about the trip when I came back... but if you're interested here's the link to the few posts I did write about my last trip there!

  14. Have a great trip - that sounds like an awesome adventure. I have a passport that looks just like that (although at $240 to renew it I'm not sure I'll be keeping it much longer).

  17. Happy retirement and happy holiday! You will even be in Sydney - i walked around the Opera HOuse on Sunday and I commented to my husband about how many British accents I was hearing - maybe one was yours:)
As for baking an edible cake - that is one of the things I tried after retiring - have had a couple of successes and some real disasters. Just buy them now! Thanks for visiting Mandarin Orange Monday and your comments:)

  18. You are going to do a great trip! I 've travelled on. my own these past few years since my husband passed away. Hong Kong is my favourite airport, although I had twice the unpleasant experience of being forced to stay there for 24 and 28 hours due to typhoons. The last time was in July this year. Sydney airport is great and Cairns is the airport where I always arrive when I see my daughter. New Zealand is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. It looks a lot like Norway, my favourite place!
I wish you a very happy journey! And a good trip back home!

  19. Hi there - as far as the fountains go, I dont remember them changing colours - I'll have to ask for my money back!

Your itinerary sounds great - lots of good places. Magnetic Island is really great.

You can read the first of 3 posts about it at:
