Today I was at the Athletes Parade as we celebrated Team GB's performance and said a final farewell to our summer of sport. Withdrawal symptoms already started. As a volunteer I was lucky enough to be given a ticket to view the parade from the Mall so I got there early to make sure I had a front row spot.
We were entertained by a number of different 'artistes'. These muscle men were very keen to show off their 6 pack.
The police from Hackney that entertained us whilst we waited. They were particularly good at taking photos for the spectators.
Eddie Izzard - went along the lines of volunteers and thanked as many of the Games Makers as he could.
In the end I only took a couple of photos of the athletes as I was too engrossed in speaking to them and waving.
It is thought there were a million people on the streets to greet the athletes. So goodbye to London 2012 - roll on Rio in 2016. (Last photo from Google images.)

Turbo grannies who raced around on their segways. I didn't realise they could go so fast.
A stand off between the police and the grannies!
The singing nun.

Not a bad imitation of 'The Bolt'.
High Fives from the police on horseback.

The British lions at the head of the parade.

ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing these. As your parade photos illustrate, the British have excellent humor! The crowd photo is phenomenal. Britain should be proud of the job it did hosting the Olympics and so should you volunteers who helped make it all happen. :)

That looks like a wonderful way to end the event. I'm sure you are feeling very bittersweet at present.
ReplyDeleteSaw some of it on TV - that first muscle man looks a bit like Ian Botham. The big crowd difference from a few years ago is that 95% of the onlookers have cameras in their hands.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun parade you had in London, a great summer for everybody.

ReplyDeleteThe parade looks like a huge celebration, lots of fun for all. A wonderful way to finish a great summer of sport for you and all of London.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful way to close the games. I'm sure it's an opportunity that you will remember for a very long time!
ReplyDeleteLondoners sure know how to party and parade. You got some great close up shots and I bet you have a head full of wonderful memories. Don't you wish that the people of the whole world could be as friendly and supportive to one another as the paraolympians are. I think we can all learn a great lesson from these disadvantaged heros.
ReplyDeleteLooks like great fun!
