My last day at the Olympic Park

This week I have been experiencing different sports at the paralympic games but my first love is athletics. I was thrilled to have tickets for 2 evening sessions in the stadium. On Wednesday I started the day  by going up to the top of the orbit and mavelling at the views. The weather was perfect .

It was the end of the morning session in the aquatics centre but it looked more like ants leaving the nest.

On the way down we came across a brass band keeping us entertained. I loved the little boy in the picture with his Union Jack hat and cuddly toy swinging from his rucsac. 'Inspire a generation' is the theme of these olympics/paralympics. Perhaps this young man will grow up to be a world famous musician!

On the ground was a morris dancing troupe to entertain the passing crowds. What I didn't realise was that the next dance had started when this photo was taken and I became entangled with the dancing group much to my embarrassment.

The beautiful building in the background is the velodrome.

It is now early evening and I have taken my seat in the stadium. I couldn't believe what a brilliant seat I had been given. I was just 9 rows from the track. In front of the track to the right is the medal rostrum so I had an excellent view of all the medal winners. If you look closely you can see 2 remote controlled cars (minis). They are being taken onto the field as these are used to bring the javelins and discus back to the athletes. Neat or what?

Whilst waiting for the session to start one of the GB medal winners(Aled Davies) came out for a look round and to give an interview. He was wearing the gold and the bronze medals.

One of the first races was the heats for the 100m which included Oscar Pistorius from South Africa.

He was also in the last race of the evening the 4x100m relay which South Africa won. Here they are celebrating their victory.
