A walk around Underriver

Today was a beautiful, warm Spring day and I went for a walk with my U3A Ramblers group. It was supposed to be a 4-5 mile walk but the conditions underfoot made it seem twice as long.

There were masses of Spring flowers blooming. Clumps of snowdrops still in flower amongst the crocuses and daffodils.

As you all know there has been widespread flooding in the UK and the ground everywhere is saturated. We were slipping and sliding all over the place.
A typical Kent Oast house (used for drying the hops to make beer) now converted to a home.

The path had been blocked by a fallen tree which came down a couple of weeks ago in the last storm. Four of us chose to see if we could get through along this ancient pathway. The rest of the group went along a bridleway which had been turned into a mud slide by the horses.

The first lambs I've seen this Spring
More trees down!
It was almost three hours later that we arrived back in the village of Underriver. We finished off with a drink and meal in the local pub but not before we had changed into cleaner footwear.

PS: Still experiencing problems with my computer. Can't blame Google or Blogspot. The computer had a bug and has now been stripped back to the factory settings which means I am still having a problem operating my usual settings. Will get there but it's slow going!

  1. Oh, what a mess to walk in the mud like that! It will take a long time for the grounds to get dry again.

  2. Sorry about your computer problems. NO FUN... Good Luck.

Yipes---what a hike! I hate trudging along in that kind of MUD and YUK. But---glad you had a change of shoes/boots --so that you could enjoy a great meal together.

    Hugs,

  3. I think the lambs and the flowers make the muddy walk worth it. And what fun, to live in an Oast house!

  5. I remember mud from my farm childhood. I detest it. Lovely photos, full of the promise of spring.

  10. Intrepid walkers! Love the signs of early spring. I hate computer problems -- I think we got ours right this time (knock wood) -- had to send it back twice.

  11. That must have been a hard walk. The lamb is cute it won't be long before it warms up and everything is blooming and hopefully dried out.
