It's over

The men's marathon is always the last athletic event of the Olympics. As you didn't need a ticket I went into London to have a look but tens of thousands of other people had the same idea. Here is Northumberland Ave lined by thousands waiting for the runners to go by.

This group had a bird's eye view from the base of Nelson's Column.

This was my view from outside Buckingham Palace!

This woman had the right idea - bring your own step.

And now it's all over. London will never seem the same again.

Until the paralympics - bring them on!

  1. The Olympics have been wonderful this year! I love your captures and wish I could have been there myself! My late husband was a silver medalist in the 1964 Olympics, so it has always been a big event for my children and I! Thanks for sharing the fun!!! Have a great, if not as exciting week!

  2. Congratulations to Britain for hosting such a successful Olympics and proving Mitt Romney wrong. That makes me very happy :) (And nice shots too.)

  3. How do feel now that it's all over? Sad? Relieved? Excited about the Paralympics? I'm guessing all of the above...

Loved seeing it all through your eyes! When the commentators last night mentioned the upcoming Paralympics I was thinking of you and hoping we'll get to see the big show on TV here in Spain! There won't be as intense a coverage as of the Olympics (they said there would be highlights, implying they won't be showing much), but there should be something!

  10. You have had much to celebrate in London-town ...... I loved seeing the Queens Jubilee earlier in the year and the Olympics have been amazing ... Next, as you say, will be the Paralympics.
All wonderful show-cases for your beautiful city ... Its been good to see members of the Royal Family out and about, enjoying the events.

  12. Thanks for sharing all of your thoughts and photos from the Olympics. That was neat!!!!! You should be very proud of your country. They did a wonderful job. I'm kinda sad that it's over... I watched quite a bit of it these past two weeks. My fav's were the swimming, gymnastics, diving, and track and field.

    Hugs,

  22. Hi,
The most of Olympics Games were broadcasted at night or late at night in Japan. I stayed late to enjoy games and next morning I was a sleepyhead. Now I miss them!
    Wonderful, wonderful games!

  23. I just watched it a bit on TV just to see the crowded streets and thought my goodness fortunately I didn't come back this day to visit the London Tower and take a bus !

  24. I'm glad you enjoyed having the Olympics so close by! A friend once went to the Olympics in Calgary (she has relatives there); it was a time to remember. I'm never crazy about crowds, but I do have fond memories of watching the Boston Marathon as a child.

  25. I still have very mixed emotions about these Olympic games. I am delighted they went so well and we showed the world we can organise a great event but then last week I went into central London and found most of the Westend deserted and many of the shop keepers bemoaning the whole event. Did you know that the number of tourist from Asia this summer is down by 40%... a figure that will have a very long economic effect on many of the business in London. Great sporting event and achievement for London? Yes.... An economic boast for London? Would seem the answer is sadly going to be no.
