Clearing the floral tributes.

I happened to be walking through Green Park again today. The last time I was here I was looking at the thousands of floral tributes laid out in memory of the Queen.

Today I saw an army of volunteers removing all the letters, photos and other non plant materials and then putting the flowers into mounds.

The flowers were being collected by a carriage pulled by two shire horses and taken to Kensington Palace gardens where they will be turned into compost which will be used in the Royal Parks.
There was an overwhelming lavender fragrance in the air. I wonder if that was the Queen's favourite perfume.

  1. Quite a task. What happens to the non compostable items?

  4. It's a lot of work, but worthwhile. I guess a lot of that will get archived.

  5. I wonder if people would be prepared to leave potted plants in honour of the queen. It would look just as beautiful and the plants would continue to thrive.

  6. I am afraid that were we were on a pre-planned holiday at the time of the funeral. We hated to miss it but caught snatches of it on Greek TV. Very sad, I'm still upset even now.

  9. I was pleased to hear that the flowers were going to be mulched and used in the palace gardens. I wonder will they keep the notes and cards and save them or at least read them. I hope so. The Queen will be remembered and missed - her life of service is so admired. I watched all the services on TV. stay safe, enjoy your week and thankyou for visiting my blog this week.

  10. Nice that they used horses ! I remember Diana's flower ocean in front of the Buckingham palace where huge trucks with big shovels tried to take them away and people got so angry that the trucks returned. They had promised to give the flowers to hospitals and retirement homes and the toys to orphanages. That people collected the cards etc is probably to keep a souvenir of this very special event. I would have picked up one too !
