It was a shock to hear of the Queen's death yesterday as it was only Tuesday that we were watching her on the news inviting Liz Truss to form a new government. Many of us have never known another monarch. She was always so dignified and tireless in her duty to the country and the Commonwealth. She will be greatly missed.
Today I went to Buckingham Palace to pay my respects. As you can imagine the crowds were incredible with hundreds and hundreds of people wanting to lay flowers in front of the Palace. So many that you had to wait quite some time to be able to file past the Palace to view or leave the flowers.
There was a notice saying that the flowers would be moved from outside the Palace every 12 hours and placed in a special area in Green Park which is next to the Palace.
A sad time indeed. I wonder if the crowd felt a connection to each other in their grieving state.
ReplyDeleteShe was loved and admired and respected by so many.
ReplyDeleteI was so very sad to hear of her passing. She had the respect and love from people from all parts of the globe, I was definitely one of those. What a magnificent person she was. I smile though thinking she is once again with her prince.
ReplyDeleteIt was a surprise after seeing her with PM Truss. You were brave to join the crowds of grieving subjects. Great photos.
ReplyDeleteDo you remember when Diana died. I had never seen thousands of people waiting to lay flowers in front of the Palace, almost all of them in tears.
ReplyDeleteI have cried many a tear for that elegant person who will be sorely missed.
ReplyDeleteI too was surprised but then 96 is quite an achievement. She was a lovely presence through the years for your country and a good friend to ours. Again my condolences.
ReplyDeleteI was sorry to hear of the queen's passing. She was a woman I admired greatly.
ReplyDeleteI was the same as you, shocked and watched the day unfold. I know we are both of a similar age son have only ever know the queen all our lives, she was part of it and will be missed. I do feel honoured to have seen her at the opening of Diamond Light Source where I had lunch with her along with other invited guests. It was also one of the few places allowed to fly the Royal Standard while she was there for the day. It would have been nice to have to Buckingham Palace or Winsor, but my wife and I do not think we could handle the crowds. Glad you got to go
ReplyDeleteI’m so glad you went, Marie (but I knew you would). And that you brought back photos for us. Queen Elizabeth will be missed all over the world. Such a lady and tireless worker for the UK. I have so many fond memories and tears.
ReplyDeleteShe seems to have been more appreciated than people thought. As she was 96 I must say she had been looking a bit frail in the last few years. RIP Queenie
ReplyDeleteYou're braver than me tackling the crowds. It was definitely a rapid decline but I'm glad for her and the family that she didn't go through a long drawn out illness. It's been interesting watching all the various ceremonies and protocols that we've never seen before.
ReplyDeleteA special lady she will be missed.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
