Queen's Walk Window Gardens

Walking along the South bank in front of the Festival hall was this intriging display of plants and window boxes. It is part of the Southbank's Centre Festival of Neighbourhood.

These sacks all contained herbs. I don't think I have ever seen such a wide variety. As well as the more familiar ones which you could there were many I didn't recognise. As the notice on the door explained they were all used in various recipes in the Riverside Cafe. Unfortunately I had already eaten and needed to be on my way.

This exhibit is called Queen's walk window gardens. Hundreds of window boxes have been built and planted by volunteers and schoolchildren for adoption by local residents at the end of the festival. They have been displayed on and around hundreds of reclaimed windows.

The Queen's Walk window gardens have pledged to grow more than 500 meals as part of the growing meals for London Campaign.

  8. The more plants the better - I don't think kids should leave school without growing things. (and doing a few other things as well!)

The next couple of weeks will be of a central Australian tone!

  12. This artistry in windows is cool, quirky and so different. I am unsure if I am looking inside - or outside. From any angle, inside or out (who can really tell??)
