This enormous iron coat of arms was displayed at each end of the old Blackfriars bridge. This was the first railway bridge to be built over the Thames taking trains into the Blackfriars terminus in 1863.

I love old decorated bridges - they just don't make 'em like they used to!
ReplyDeleteSounds like it's a very interesting walk. I'm enjoying the sights. :-)
ReplyDeleteIsn't it wonderful? I hope they never tear down these beautiful old decorated bridges.
ReplyDeleteYou have to admire the work of the Victorians
ReplyDeleteThat's an impressive coat of arms - and I don't even need to brush up on my non-existent Latin to understand it!!!! I hope it's there for another 150 years!!
ReplyDeleteLove to see this at a bridge that makes it so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThese coat of arms (wherever they may be) certainly do turn my head. Hope you are holding up ok in this rather warm weather we are having :).
