Yorkshire Sculpture Park

Whilst in Yorkshire last  I visited the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. It is located near Wakefield, 20 miles from Leeds, in the 500 acre Bretton estate. The open air collection is scattered within a landscape of woodland, lakes and formal gardens. There is a temporary exhibition in amongst the permanent collection.

  1. Wow those are a lot of sculptures. I like that chicken, and the zodiac heads...

  2. I visit Yorkshire Sculpture Park a couple of times a year (first planned trip for this year was cancelled but fingers crossed for later) and it is good to see it through somebody else’s lens

  3. Blot on the landscape. The only ones that blend in with the surroundings are Henry Moore sculptures.

  4. These are some of the strangest sculptures I've ever seen. Some of them are a bit demented, in my opinion. But thanks for sharing anyway. :-)

  5. I was bewildered by a lot of them and couldn't imagine the artist's intent. To show how unsophisticated I am , I really liked the ice cream cone:))

  6. It always amazes me what some people consider art but it's often interesting. It must have taken hours to look at all of these and take your brilliant photos. A shame that so many plaques had the "Please do not climb on the sculpture" warning on them.

  7. Well, Henry Moore may be a well-known artist and very good at what he does, but I don't get his work. All the other works are fine, I can see what they mean or just enjoy them, but HM's work is not for me.

  8. I think some of those sculptors have a lot of fun making their creations. And then there are others who create then come up with a name for it. LOL

  9. Making the familiar unfamiliar. So much creativity in one place is astonishing. It’s an intriguing, beguiling quote: neither dead or alive. :)

  10. Mostly not my cup of tea but I saw a few I liked. A Needle Woman had a rather chilling subtitle pertinent to the times: Galaxy was a Memory, Earth a Souvenir. Hmmm, we hope not! The description had a whole lot more meaning that I saw in the actual sculpture! Maybe just me ....

  11. I've only ever been to one sculpture park and that was placed in a small area though it took a while to wander around. Some of the so called work was as crap as the ones in this park others I though good. These places are a mixture of peoples work. I cannot call it talent when I see the one called alternative landscape, hanging a bucket on a tree is not art but others are quite colourful like the octopus which I liked

  12. An amazing variety of sculptures and as in most sculpture parks some I love and others I think are rubbish. I like the octopus best. I was born in Wakefield.
