The snow arrives

The snow has arrived. I woke up on Wednesday to these views from the bedroom window. I decided to put on the walking boots and enjoy the pristine snow.

I walked to Blackheath and then on to Greenwich Park.

The scenery was magical and surprisingly quiet.

This is where everyone was hanging out. Many children were off school and taking advantage of the snow to try out those sledges they had found at the back of the garage.

Since then we have had some of the lowest temperatures I can remember. We have also had a storm with its high winds. At home pipes have frozen and as a consequence the heating stopped (hair dryer to the rescue!). As I write this, the snow is falling heavily so I think I will make myself a cup of tea and stay home.

  1. Lowest temperature you can remember, come on you were around in 1963 and that was colder plus the snow hung around till Easter.

  6. It does look pretty, and so peaceful. But enough is enough! May your pipes stay warm, your heater working, and your tea supply plentiful!

  7. Assuming Greenwich Park is in Greenwich, that is quite some walk. Isn't there a train? Oh, yes, English trains don't work in the snow, which is rather odd. First time I have heard of thawing out pipes with a hairdryer, but it is pretty obvious.

  8. Here it is exactly the same only I escaped the worst cold, but yesterday it snowed again. It's hard for me to get adjusted to the temperature difference ! From 30 to - 6°C is hard !

  10. Yes it's lovely when it's new and fresh but now I want it gone. I hope there was no damage from your frozen pipes.

  12. Just lovely. I like to walk in fresh snow, too, when there isn't too much of it. I love the picture of all the people playing in the park. :-)

  15. When I traveled home last Tuesday via Heathrow, it was snowing there, but not enough to bother me or any of the planes arriving/leaving. And when I got back to Norway, it was freezing cold, but only a smattering of snow here and there from a few days earlier.
