Bath to Brighton

We checked out of the hotel, leaving our luggage in the car in the car park. We had decided that if the weather was another bright blue sunny day we would go for a trip along the River Avon which we did see photos here.

Our holiday in the UK was coming to an end but we had one more visit to make and that was to see a couple of mutual friends in Sussex. They had invited us to stay with them that evening, so although it was a few hours drive I still had time to squeeze in an extra visit. All Saints Church in Tudeley, Kent is a not so well known little gem. I have featured it before but I make no excuses for posting about it again. The stained glass windows are the creation of Marc Chagall. He was commissioned to do the main one above the altar as a memorial to the landowner's daughter but when he saw that in situ he offered to do all the windows.

We arrived late afternoon and the sun was just in the right position to show the windows at the peak of their splendour.

PS: my comments on some of your posts seem to be popping up in your spam box. If anyone knows how to solve this problem I would love to hear from you.

  13. The only Chagall that I have seen is the ceiling of the Opera Garnier in Paris. I was surprised that he also did stained glass. So I read about him. He was in several mediums...and I also didn't know that he was evacuated to the U.S. During the war. The things you learn reading blogs! janey

  14. Beautiful -- and amazing to know that he did stained glass.

Typepad (my platform) puts some comments in a special comment Spam box for no reason whatsoever that I can figure out -- but yours come through fine.
