Always seems to happen when you are in a hurry. Two weeks ago as I was returning from Manchester, the traffic was stopped to allow a small boat with a tall mast to travel down the River Irwell.
I had plenty of time to find my camera and photograph the bridge as it swung round!

ReplyDeleteI am used to stopping at railway crossings but stopping at boat crossings is much rarer in my neck of the woods. :)
ReplyDeleteThose swing bridges are so cool! In my city almost all our bridges are drawbridges.
ReplyDeleteWe have several lift bridges in our area here -- it always happens to me when I have groceries in the car and forgot my thermal cold bags!
ReplyDeleteCool!
ReplyDeleteNeat! Thanks for letting me watch, too. :-)
ReplyDeleteDid you make it back home okay?
ReplyDeleteOf course had you have set out to catch the bridge working, it would have never happened.
ReplyDeleteHehe, I just googled the bridge and a photo of yours popped up from 2014.
ReplyDeleteNice experience
ReplyDeleteIf you have plenty of time you should have gotten out to get a couple of pictures, doubt the drivers behind could have said much, they were not going anywhere. Must be interesting to watch, a bigger scale than the ones on the Kennet I have seen
ReplyDeleteThat is a nice bridge, we don't see them swinging here. They mostly go up and down.
ReplyDeleteThe Swinging bridges are cool. We have bridge here that lift up. Great series of photos. I hope the traffic did not have to wait too long. Happy Tuesday, enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteThis happens to us quite often in Beaufort but we are always far back in line. Nice photos. Next time you come to the US, maybe we can meet somewhere.
ReplyDeleteFascinating!
ReplyDeleteNeat bridge photo and post ~ (sounds like home here on Cape Ann MA)
ReplyDeleteHappy Week to you ~ ^_^
I had never heard of a Swing Bridge (in my little hometown, we called them "Swinging Bridges") until George took me to North Myrtle Beach. There is an old Swing Bridge there ---and we see it every time we are in that area... Enjoyed this post!
ReplyDeleteHope you had an awesome birthday.
Hugs,
Betsy
It's good to make something positive out of a traffic holdup. Hope noone thought you were using a mobile phone while driving.
ReplyDeleteWonderful shots.
ReplyDeleteFirst time I hear about a swinging bridge ! How interesting !
