It's the weekend and the area around Lake Louise in the Canadian Rockies is full of visitors so Marilyn and myself decided to go to Banff for the day. We left early so that we could get on the gondola to the top of Sulphur mountain before the tour parties arrived.
We were in one of the first of the cars to go up
Mountain goats relaxing beneath the gondola.
The mountain is almost 7,500ft high (2,300m). There were some great reflections in the windows around the gondola building.
But no reflection can upstage the real views.
There is a short walk from the Gondola to a weather station at the top of the mountain overlooking the town of Banff. Peering through the window you can see the sparse conditions meteorologists endured.
At the base of the gondola is the ice explorer used to take the tourists onto the glacier.
Close by are the thermal springs where we spent a pleasant hour broiling ourselves whilst gazing at the surrounding mountains.
Banff is a small town but full of life with lots of cafes, art galleries and shops.
We drove back past the castle cliffs
We decided to have a look at Moraine Lake on our way back to Lake Louise. I am so glad we did as this Lake has to be one of the most picturesque in the Park.
It is surrounded by the Ten Peaks.
Rippled rock, proof that this area was once covered by sea - 560 million years ago.
