Limone

We travelled by boat across Lake Garda to visit the small town of Limone.
Beautiful narrow streets

The lemon museum which told you about the growing of lemons in the area and had numerous citrus trees on show.
It was very busy there and so hot. We found a table in the shade overlooking the lake and feasted on salad and pizza before taking the ferry back across the water.

Monte Baldo

A view from Monte Baldo looking down over Lake Garda. You can reach the top via cable car from Malcescine where we were staying. Spectacular views even though it was a bit hazy.

Perfect place for the wind gliders to take off. Not sure if that's the right name for them. They ran down the hill and then jumped off the Ledge.
They have a seat to wriggle onto once they are airborne.

You can even take an alpaca for a walk!

Malcesine

I am here for 5 days. Malcesine is one of a number of small towns and villages which are by Lake Garda.

A view of the hotel.

It is an old town with many narrow walkways

Lake Garda

Arrived here in Malcesine, Lake Garda, Italy last night. This is the view from the hotel bar. I think I'm going to enjoy the next few adult only days.

Warwick Castle

Apologies for being so lax in posting and commenting of late. The current summer school holidays mean a lot of childcare and exhaustion. This weekend my daughter and myself took her two children to the Midlands for a short break. We visited the Titanic exhibition at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham. The children are obsessed with everything to do with the Titanic and they both thoroughly enjoyed it. I didn't bother with photographs as there were very few artefacts. It was mainly photos, information and interactive things. Items from its sister ship the Olympic were on display which did give you an idea of the opulence for the first class passengers in comparison to basic facilities for the third class passengers.

On Sunday we visited Warwick Castle situated by the river Avon about 15 miles from Stratford-upon -Avon.
It is a medieval castle originally built by William the Conqueror in 1068. It was fortified in the 14th cent and used as a stronghold until the early 17th century when it was granted to Sir Fulke Greville by James 1 in 1604. It was converted into a country home and the Greville family (who became the Earls of Warwick in 1759) lived there until the late 1970s.

You could climb up to the top of the towers which gave great views of the surrounding countryside.

The inner courtyard was being prepared for some kind of evening performance.

The Great Hall had an impressive display of swords and torture equipment!

A bird of prey flying display, which was one of the best I've ever seen, completed a very enjoyable visit to the castle.

Taylor Swift at the V and A

Today I took my 10 yr old granddaughter to the Victoria and Albert museum. We were here to follow the Taylor Swift songbook trail. Well to be honest I was there to facilitate my granddaughter following the trail.

There were 13 sections, each one highlighted a different chapter of her career by displaying the outfits she wore during her concerts. I only took a couple of photos as my gd took loads of photos.

I have to say all credit to the V and A for putting on this free exhibition during the school summer holidays. My gd who is a huge fan of Taylor loved every minute of it.
Each section of the trail is in a different part of the museum and I assume the museum is trying to showcase itself to a younger audience. Whatever the reason, it was a great, free day out.
