Whilst walking around a new development in the London Docklands at the weekend I across this supermarket. Many of you may have already seem them and perhaps used them. I went inside but I couldn't buy anything as I needed to have the app on my phone to gain entry and also to buy any of the food. I expect money will no longer be needed soon as everything will be done on a smart phone.
They seem to be poking their fingers in to different pies now. I think they just opened some Wearhouse in Wallingford in a new industrial estate
ReplyDeleteWe have one near us but I've never used it. Like you I do not have the app.
ReplyDeleteNot something that I would want to get into.
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of these stores, but I expect it won't be long, as you say, before it's what we all use! :-)
ReplyDeleteSame with me, DJan. I will rely on the grandchildren to keep me up to date.
DeleteMust be a UK thing. Over here Amazon purchased the Whole Foods grocery store chain some years ago. I don't like the fact that just because we have a cell phone we're supposed to be tied in to the internet all the time which is what an App to shop would require. I refuse to be that plugged in!
ReplyDeleteI think you are right about the smart phones, there are apps for just about everything, in saying that I don't use mine all the time and I don't think we have shops here where you can only gain entry with a phone, I think there would be a huge uproar if there was.
ReplyDeleteYes that is the way it is going. A bit hard for lies to get their head around it. Woolworths here where I shop have that option but at least they still have the old ways too.
ReplyDeleteWOW...I didn't know places like that existed. I'm going to have to do some googling to see if we have one in our area. I think you're right about the money thing. I don't have many app's on my phone; but love doing things on my computer. I like the bigger screen; but I know lots of folks use their phones for everything! Popped in from a mutual friends blog. It's always fun to meet new bloggers, hope you swing by for a visit.

We visited my sister and bil in Seattle a couple of years ago and they took us to the first one of those supermarkets. And we walked out with a few groceries without stopping at a checkout. I was (and still am) amazed at the concept. It's a brave new world out there !
ReplyDeletePaying with a smartphone I haven't seen yet, but more and more shops don't accept cash anymore. When I made my tour around the Eastern countries, I thought that we are now far behind them, because even on the market in Poland I payed my ice with a card, 0,50 cents to be exact, because I had no zloti and she didn't want Euros !!
ReplyDeleteInteresting. Amazon stores haven’t reached us yet that I know of. A credit card only economy makes me a bit nervous. I got my credit card scammed while on a trip this week so they cancelled the card and it, of course, takes a while to get a new one in the mail. So, I was credit card-less for my trip back home. At the airport I had a situation where I needed a credit card and the airline would not take cash. I was finally able to give a stranger in line cash, they paid with their credit card, and I was able to make the flight. Thank goodness for a kind stranger!
ReplyDeleteResist Amazon. Resist the Great Reset. Pay Cash. All will be well if we stick together.
ReplyDeleteI really am a techno dinosaur ... no apps for me!
