North bank of the Thames

A couple of days after visiting the light show at Battersea Power station, I was on the North bank of the river visiting the Tate Britain art gallery. It was a pleasant day and I  decided to have a walk along the river embankment. It was interesting to see the converted Power station from this side of the river.  Looking at the smoke from one of the chimneys is a reminder of its previous life but I'm assuming that the smoke will be from the central heating systems now in place for all the apartments that now exist there.

The building in the centre of this photo is the MI5 building, (Military Intelligence section 5) which is responsible for our security.

  1. Not sure MI5 are doing well at the moment with looking after the country. Battersea power station has taken on a whole new lease of life now though it's not place I would want to live. Nice shots of the ducks

  2. The smoke coming from the old power station chimney looks so natural. Maybe steam could be blown out the chimneys just for effect.

Now you've done it, confirmed there is an MI5 and its location.

Always good to see birds doing what birds do.

  3. The third photo looks amazing, but I cannot tell which part of the Battersea Power Station is was/is. It looks as if each section of the building has large sections of blue glass or paint behind it.

  4. A lot of new buildings have sprung up since I used to wander along the riverside when I was a student in London back in the early 70s. Interesting to see Egyptian Geese in the last photo; they escaped from wildfowl collections and became established in the wild in Norfolk - I didn't realise that they'd spread down to the Thames.

  5. Nice to see the wildlife in juxtaposition with the skyline of London. The military intelligence building is interesting architecture. It looks as if it kept mushrooming from a core.

  6. Security must be a non-stop job. The building looks to be a very appropriately imposing figure on the horizon.

  9. Lovely shots! And thank you for your nice comment over at my blog. I'm sad not to be managing Our World anymore and am hoping that someone might want to take it over in the future.

  10. Shame about the grey day because there were some good opportunities for sunny scenes there. The MI5 building looks suitably austere.

  12. The MI5 building looks as though it must definitely have some secret rooms inside.

  13. That's pretty fascinating to see the wild birds making themselves comfortably at home right smack in the middle of the City ... that's the charm of the River Thames!

  14. For me I think the Thames is such a fascinating river, mostly because of its age. I've been watching on youtube videos made by mudlarkers who frequent the river, it's amazing what they find.

  16. Love the Tate. Looks like you had a nice walk but it looks a bit dull and cold.
