Whale watching, Boothbay Harbour, ME

Today the sun was shining brightly as we walked through the town to the harbour.
So many large houses which have been converted to hotels.

This map gives you an idea of the number of islands around Boothbay Harbour in Maine. Today we are going out on a boat hoping to see some whales.

It was interesting seeing life from the boat. A number of the islands are not inhabited once the season has ended.

We had to go a long whale out before seeing a whale. This is a fin whale.

We saw three fin whales in the end but then the fog descended and the temperature dropped. Time to return to the harbour.

  3. Beautiful shots from the boat. Just to see an animal like that where they belong would be wonderful.

  6. And you got a picture! We've been lucky enough to see a few, but not to get a good shot.

Our oldest son was stationed at Booth Bay harbor when he was in the Coast Guard. We weren't able to visit while he was there, but we did spend some time there on our trip up the East Coast in 2010..... beautiful memories -- thank you for sharing your beautiful pictures.

  8. It is always a tombola to see a whale. Do they pop up or stay away, but you caught one in the photo.

  10. Interesting place.... I'll bet people who own home/cabins in that area wonder each year whether those places will 'make it' through the big storms and wicked winters.... Not sure I'd want a place like that to 'worry about'.... BUT--it would be nice some of the year to be there!!!!!

Glad you got to see some whales--at least their fins...

    Hugs,
    Betsy
