Stormy weather

Umbrellas are of little use during the storms we are experiencing.

Huge areas of the UK have been affected by the gales, storms and high tides leading to a lot of flooding in numerous parts of the country. Many homes and businesses have been flooded more than once during the last month and it is not over yet as more severe weather makes its way towards us from the USA and Canada. Due to the heavy rainfall the ground is saturated and rivers are high so the water just has nowhere to go.

  2. The storms you are experiencing remind «Louis» of the horrific windstorm that swept across the Atlantic and over France on New Year's Eve/New Year's Morning 1999/2000. That storm destroyed thousands upon thousands of trees. (He doesn't remember if that same storm hit the U.K. or not, but it probably did as it came off the Atlantic.)

  3. Umbrellas don't work in wind and rain, do they? I carry one but when it's windy, I just bundle myself up in my raincoat. Hope you are staying warm and dry during these trying times in the UK.

  4. So that's where the storms we have been having are going. For you it's just rain then not snow?

  7. Nothing tells of the throw away society more than umbrellas. There has been some spectacular tv coverage here of your 'big wet' and I noted that houses that have never flooded before have been this time.

  9. Interesting pile of useless umbrellas, turned inside out by the wind, I imagine. We are having one of the coldest winters in decades, -30 F tonight and tomorrow night. I hope the rains that are approaching you are mild.

  10. Oh my goodness! all that water and no where for it to go. If only we could transport it down here and water our sun-scorched gardens. I agree umbrellas are not much help in a storm!!

  12. Dearest Fun60;
    I heard about the news of heavy snow-fall in America. Never thought about the stormy weather in London! I always LOVE to see your blog's background, which I never experienced (climbing mountains) and under the beautiful winter season. But please stay warm and Take Care, my friend in England.
    Love and hugs from Japan, xoxo Miyako*
