JR Giants

I first saw these legs a couple of weeks ago and assumed they were part of London Lumiere. How wrong could I be! They are the legs of a high jumper (Mohamed Younes Idriss from Sudan) as photographed by a French street artist known as JR. The image has been displayed on laser cut cardboard outside a new gallery space on Sackville Street Mayfair.

The gallery, Lazinc, is displaying 'studio plans, drawings and prototypes used to realise JR's Giant series displayed during the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.' taken from the Gallery's press release.

This is how it looked displayed over a building in Rio.

The other design on display was of the French swimmer Leonie Periault.

I would love to have seen these 'Giants' in situ but at least I am grateful that I saw this exhibition and will look out for JR's work in the future.

  12. Oh it is good to know the rest of the story -- I remember the legs from the last photo in your (wonderful) Lumiere posts and was curious. This artist really captures the grace and strength and beauty of these athletes. And my gosh -- incredible scale.
