Attendant cafe

Space to build in Central London is never easy to find but someone had a good idea of how to make use of this disused structure.  This former Victorian gents toilet was built in the 1890s and then closed in the 1960s, Nothing happened for more than 50 years but then it was transformed into a coffee bar.
It took two years from the planning stage to completion.

Come down and have a look.
Recognise the fittings? (Not that I'd seen them before, I hasten to add)

These are the original urinals.

It did seem a little strange to be sitting at a urinal but full marks for originality.

It was much smaller than I thought as I imagined they would have extended it somehow.

If you are in London and fancy going somewhere a little different then check it out. It is less than a 10min walk from Oxford Circus on Foley Street

  1. Hope they smell better than they did originally. Nice touch with the urinals though I see the cubicle's have gone so you can't spend a penny there. Great piece of ingenuity must look out for it next time I get round that way

  6. Cute and clever and the iron work grill is wonderful. How good they preserved it and a unique spot to grab a coffee.

  9. Astonishing! "It did seem strange to be sitting at a urinal" ..... what an understatement!!! In this land of wide open spaces use of spaces like that is ...UNBELIEVABLE! Thanks for a very interesting post and great photos!

  10. That's classic. I'm not sure how I'd feel about drinking and eating on a urinal!

  12. Strange, but wonderful! Those old urinals are pieces of art. It would feel a bit weird to sit there and drink coffee, though. This may be your most unique blog find yet!

  16. Good to see it put to a new use. Not sure that I would feel comfortable drinking coffee in an urinal.

  21. That is really well done, but I wonder whether I could get over the whiff of urine which I know is not there anymore, but... you know...
