If you have been a fan of The Beatles you will have heard of the Abbey Road studios. You may also remember the cover of their album Abbey Road. Well a few days ago I happened to be on Abbey Road walking past the studios.
The graffiti on the walls made for some interesting reading. The studios invite people to write on them and not anywhere else to avoid annoying the neighbours.
Approaching the studios I could see numerous people at the zebra crossing, trying to replicate The Beatles crossing but the car drivers were not too happy having to stop so often to allow people to cross the road.
It was from this side that I should have been taking the photos. I waited and waited but I got fed up in the end waiting for four people to get in the right position. I assume The Beatles had the road closed for a short time whilst they did their photo shoot.

This group almost got it right but I am on the wrong side of the crossing.
Even if you are not a fan of The Beatles, it is hard to not know about the Abbey Road crossing. I once heard that this is not the original crossing but I never sought out details. People who are delayed when driving along Abbey Road only have their own stupidity to blame. Go another way folks.
ReplyDeleteNice post, who doesn't remember that photo. Probably there was not much traffic in those days when the photo was made, but I think they closed the road for a moment indeed.
ReplyDeleteLovely post and the first photo is well known. Personally I love the Beatles...
ReplyDeleteAh, memories! I'm sure I would have to cross, in remembrance.
ReplyDeleteHa, ha, I didn't think about the disruption to traffic it must cause with all those people trying to replicate the Beatles photo. Very interesting post!
ReplyDeleteFun. I wish I could remember what show I was watching the other night, when 'the kid' asked, who's Paul McCartney?
ReplyDeleteZebra crossing? Is that a round about?
It was nice to see that iconic spot, even if the Beatles have left the premises. :-)
ReplyDeleteI would not have though there was as much traffic on the roads either so easy to shoot. Thanks for showing them
ReplyDeleteOh I never thought of the nuisance it would be for the traffic. Our teenage grandchildren were guilty of this a few years ago. Great post!
ReplyDeleteI have never been to Abbey Road, but I followed all Beatles traces in Liverpool ! Took a whole day, we even went to the Cavern Club where they first performed. My friend stayed and danced, for me it was too loud and I waited outside, lol !
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun idea to mimic the famous walk where the Beatles did it. I can see how a steady unrelenting stream of tourists doing this would get a bit much for the neighbors.
ReplyDeleteI'll bet that is one of the busiest roads in London and I'll bet the people who live there have some laughs at the antics of the tourists.
ReplyDeleteI'm a huge Beatles fan, and if I'm ever in London will have to go and see this place!
ReplyDeleteHah, I love this post. That road crossing is on my bucket list. The drivers need to find another way because that crossing is going to be tied up for a long time.
ReplyDeleteI really like the Beatles and yes, I have heard of Abbey Road :) Great post!
ReplyDeleteHi! I remeber the first photo clearly. You remind me of my young days with Beatles'songs. I enjoyed your former posts too. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteDearest Fun60; Oh, reminiscent to see the first 2 photos :-) And remembered learning the meaning of "let it be" when young and surprised, haha. Thank you very much for sharing this post, love to see these pictures♬♬♬
ReplyDeleteSending Lots of Love and Hugs from Japan to my Dear friend, xoxo Miyako*
Yes I've heard that it causes quite a hold up on that crossing.
ReplyDeleteI would think most drivers would find a better way to get from here to there, avoid the frustration. :)
ReplyDeletea nice piece of music history :)
ReplyDeleteIts a famous image for sure - and much copied!
ReplyDeleteCheers - Stewart M - Melbourne
I love this album! My sister-in-law and her family tried to duplicate the Abby Road photo while they were on vacation in London. They had the same difficulty with too many cars wizzing by!
ReplyDeleteThat must get annoying for drivers. But who could blame people for trying! Good idea on the graffiti wall!
ReplyDeleteI would love to bring a chair and just sit and watch people crossing Abbey Road. Bet it would be entertaining :).
