When I am not doing the home schooling, I like to do something that requires little thought and so one of the things I have turned to is doing a jigsaw. I have had this one for ages and decided to give it a try. I had forgotten how large a 1000 piece jigsaw is and I had to move this one a couple of times before I found a surface I could use. The jigsaw is Chatsworth House, Derbyshire ( think of Mr Darcy, diving into the lake). Trouble is the picture on the box is 6ins square and gives very little detail.
If you are into jigsaws, how do you start? I always do the edging first and then something that stands out.
I then removed all the light coloured sky pieces as I think that's going to be the most difficult section to solve. Oh well it's something to occupy my time during this third lockdown!
Yes, always the edges first. I like jigsaws because they require concentration and you can't be dwelling on anything else in your mind.
ReplyDeleteGood for you. My wife enjoys doing puzzles, I like simple ones. The pieces in the complex ones just seem to start swimming in my head after a while. Yours seems to be very difficult.
ReplyDeleteYes I do the edges first. I keep meaning to start another jigsaw. Yours looks hard.
ReplyDeleteYes, the edges first.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to be able to do a little at a time ...
All the best Jan
Edges first, always. We always enjoyed puzzles with our kids and gr-kids. I did get a puzzle made from my Swiss. gr-kids photos, and it is waiting for me.
ReplyDeleteGoodness me - that is so difficult, I would have given up before I started!
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteIt does look like a hard puzzle, puzzles are a fun way to pass the time. The picture looks pretty. Take care, enjoy your day! Have a great week ahead!
Some people love puzzles and some don't. I guess I could do one if I had little else to occupy my days, but gosh that one looks really hard! Please share it when you finish it, so I can admire your persistence.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy puzzles too and can get caught up and hours go by...similar to when I get online!
ReplyDeleteI locate the straight edges around the outside as you do. Actually I do the puzzle exactly like you do.
Hopefully we can be out and about soon. We get our second vaccine shot next week, which has us very hopeful.
We have a second 1000 piece jigsaw that granddaughter pulled out to start yesterday. It will barely fit on the card table where we have it. We start with edges too but granddaughter usually sees one special feature and looks for pieces for that. I go for the lines in the pictures. We get to register online on Friday for the vaccine!
ReplyDeleteBill sometimes does jigsaws on line in the evening, he says it relaxes him. I’m more a crossword girl (ours are very easy compared to yours, even our best ones). Either one gets your mind off of Covid and politics and boy do we ever need to think about something other than those. .... your grands are lucky to have you as their teacher as well as their grandmother!
ReplyDeleteI love doing puzzles too and yes always start with the edging. I have a board that I do mine on that can be closed up and stored away so that I don't have to worry about being on a table and having to move. I lent it to my daughter but I got it back today so tomorrow I think I will start on the puzzle I got for Christmas of my two grandsons.
ReplyDeleteHave fun with it!
ReplyDeleteTo keep my mind from going to total mush, I play bridge as my first preference. All I have to do is to count to 52, a task I can still manage.
ReplyDeleteBut jigsaws are also excellent because they require visual attention, ditto crossword puzzles and Scrabble.
Nice! Have fun.
ReplyDeleteYes, edges first always! Then I make piles of similar colored pieces and start with recognizable sections. Then link them all together with the background colors. Funny, I never thought about how people probably approach a puzzle differently until you mentioned it!
ReplyDeleteGosh you are good doing the homeschooling, I wonder if you need alot of patience for it. It's important to have your down time.
ReplyDeleteJigsaws are very popular here too, especially in lockdown times. I had to stop doing them as I got bad backache from leaning over them. Now I do them on my iPad instead.
ReplyDeleteWow … this is an extremely challenging jigsaw. By the looks of it, you’ve done very well so far. It’s good brain food and much needed during these restrictive times.
