The library has recently reopened after almost 5 months. Just before lockdown they had increased the number of books you could borrow from eight to twenty five. I took advantage of this and just before they had to close I took out the maximum. I mainly chose children's books because I knew I would be home schooling.
In the evening I met up with a couple of friends for a socially distanced open air cinema.
It took place in the grounds of Leeds castle in Kent. Although you can see it very well from this photo, the backdrop to the screen was the castle.
At the beginning of the week I went with my daughter and my two grandchildren to the Kent coast. The weather was perfect as it wasn't too hot and as the forecast was rain there were no crowds. Fortunately it didn't rain and they loved playing in the sea and the sand. We stayed overnight in a hotel which had observed all the rules and I felt more than happy to stay there. The only downside was in the evening when I unpacked my bag and I discovered that my grandson (2yrs old) had put his drinking cup into my bag and soaked my camera! Far too late to remedy the situation. I did have accidental damage insurance for the camera as just 3 years ago I ruined my last camera when I dropped in in mud and on buying this one I took out added insurance. Sadly the insurance ran out in April and it was non renewable.
So sorry to hear of your camera being ruined. The pictures you post here are good, I assume taken with your phone? :-)

ReplyDeleteWas sorry to hear about your camera in an otherwise perfect outing. I, by a slim hair, missed having my camera drop into a canal in Venice during holidays and my heart nearly stopped! By the looks of the selection of books, your “lucky dip” was indeed lucky.

Oh no! Poor camera. Nice to spend time with grandkids though. we just drove to and from Buffalo to return a granddaughter home after her extended stay with cousins and us.

ReplyDeleteAh, what bad luck marring what sounds like an otherwise nice break away. Too late now I guess, but in such cases put the camera or phone or whatever in a sealed container with rice which will absorb the moisture. Leave it there for a day or so.

ReplyDeleteWe have similar rules at our library. You can make an appointment and spend 20 minutes inside picking out books yourself now, however. I order online and pickup and someone brings it to the car. You don’t even need to show your card. They just trust you these days I guess. Too bad about your camera and ironic that the insurance had just expired. But what a joy to get away from home for a bit and spend time with your grandchildren at the shore. I love the colorful sailboats and realized though we have many many here, the sails are all white.
ReplyDeleteIt must have been nice to getaway with your grandchildren except for the cup disaster. We have our own library here in the village and during lockdown we were allowed to go one at a time and choose a star of books. Now the Community centre and library is open under Cover rules. (Check in, check out, enter one way exit another, keep your distance, )

The lucky dip looks like a great way to read books you wouldn't initially consider picking up. Sorry to hear about your camera! We have just come back from a holiday and our computer had crashed. That lucky dip thing at the Library is a great idea. We’ve been reading only on our Kindles, but check out virtual library books for them. I love libraries and I miss them.
