First day in Krakow

I have been taking a break from blogging due to poor internet access and the frustration that that involves but I will endeavour to catch up with all your posts soon. For the past few days I have been visiting Krakow in Poland. It was my first visit to the country despite it being a short flight from London.

The old town has the largest medieval square in Europe.
In the centre of the Square is the cloth market.

The cloth market is filled with stalls selling their brightly coloured wares.

Also in the Old Town is the Cathedral and the castle both of which looked magical in the fading light.

  4. Well worth visiting, by the look of it. While I don't know what conditions may be attached, some the very special former east European cities receive money for restoration of buildings and some do not.

  5. Those shots of the castle and the church are lovely and I enjoyed all the lights as well.

  8. I'd heard that Krakow was beautiful and your excellent photos appear to support that. Love the Christmas lights too.

  12. I have never been in an Eastern country, Krakow looks like a nice town. Don't speak about slow Internet or I get a nervous breakdown. I came back yesterday evening !

  14. I was guessing you were off on a trip somewhere. It looks cold, judging by the seller in one of the shops. The last photo is my favorite, such a different Christmas decoration from those we see here. Looking forward to seeing more of your visit.

  15. Now I can see why people say that some Polish cities, Krakow in particular, are beautiful. The streets look quiet. Is that because many Poles have left those lovely cities?

  16. They certainly know how to put on a show

  18. What a beautiful old City! I am not sure why that should surprise me, but it does ( probably because I'm basically ignorant of world geography). London is a wonderful central hub for travel ... You are lucky that way! Thanks for sharing.

  19. It looks so different from the medieval towns I'm used to from italy! Nice though. But that "lying head" monument looks really odd. :)

  20. That looks like an attractive city. I've never been in Poland; when I lived in Europe it was behind the Iron Curtain.

  21. A grand old city, so nicely depicted in your photos

  22. This city is so uneuropean( if that word exists) and so attractive. I have never been in Poland, but I had Polish visitors for a couple of days in 2010. They were taking part in a manifestation of members of Taizé, which was held in Rotterdam.
    Merry Christmas.
