Closing Tower Bridge

For the first time ever, I happened to be walking across Tower Bridge when they closed it to pedestrians and traffic so the bridge could be raised allowing a tall boat to sail underneath.

The bridge is closed, on average once a day, so it's not an unusual occurence. It's just being there at the right moment to capture the event that got me excited.

  1. We have drawbridges in Portland too. I've been caught on the bridge during a bridge lift a couple of times. Very interesting and good photo ops!

  2. Well done for your excellent timing.
You captured the angles beautifully. I'd love to have seen it in person.

  6. Nerdy as it sounds, I have watched it on webcam and there is also a online schedule. Not quite as good as being there, but interesting.

  7. This is great! I have just seen Stephen Fry on the TV lifting the bridge, fascinating stuff and the underneath mechanism looks like an amphitheater. xx

  8. Gosh yes. I get excited seeing our lift and swing bridges in Florida when they open. And they are definitely NOT historical.
